Many buildings are in the floodplain of the river and sometimes even in the riverbed. During the drought of the 70s, but the marsh has declined substantially in size and houses were built in the dry areas of it. Then, with the rains, the creek has resumed its natural dynamics, but the bed was strongly modified by these homes. This was strongly narrowed in width and length because of embankment including using sand and it does so today are natural bed.
During winter, this leads many problems of flooding of homes located near the bed due to its water storage capacity very limited and represents a major health risk for people with deteriorating living conditions and increased risks facing certain (malaria).
Some homes still being built in the bed of the creek despite floods affecting much of the infrastructure of coastal waters.
